re:Invent is the largest gathering of the Amazon Web Services community from across the globe — this year AWS expects more than 24,000 attendees! With registration now open, act fast before tickets run out. Once that’s said and done, follow our top tips to help you get the most out of your re:Invent experience this November.
Once you’ve registered for your tickets, be sure to book your flights well in advance. AWS secured discount rates on rooms at the Venetian, Palazzo, The Wynn, and The Mirage. Additionally, check out the AWS website to get discount codes for airfare.
#PROTIP: Always try to book the Palazzo if you can, but if all the other hotels are sold out already, Treasure Island is also very close by (although very cheesy).
The session catalog will be posted later this summer (including 400+ sessions), and will allow you to begin scheduling your agenda one month before the event. Once you’ve figured out your session level, start adding everything that interests you to your calendar.
#PROTIP: This year, putting a session on your calendar will mean your seat is automatically reserved. No more standing in the back corner.
AWS offers three different levels of sessions so every attendee can get the most out of their experience. You can find more information on sessions and their levels here.
#PROTIP: If you’re an AWS pro who has already implemented a solution on your own, be sure not to accidentally sign up for an introductory session. One exception to this is that many of the customer case study sessions will be labeled “Introductory".
Wednesday and Thursday morning, AWS holds keynote sessions that you won’t want to miss. They’ll be posting more info on these later in the summer, so be sure to check back in. Attend both to kick off your mornings.
#PROTIP: Each day the keynotes will include talks from AWS leaders interspersed with top customers. This is when they will announce their biggest new products and features.
After a couple of long days in breakout sessions and keynotes, be sure not to miss the pub crawl that spans both the Venetian and Palazzo casinos. Hosted bar and appetizers are included, so you can kick back and unwind on AWS’s tab.
Details: Wednesday, November 30, 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm
#PROTIP: Don’t miss the CloudHealth Tech sponsored pub crawl stop at DB Brasserie for the best snacks, drinks, and cloud management conversations.
On that note, while re:Invent comes with fun events and free drinks, it also comes with Las Vegas heat and long, long days. Be sure to stay hydrated so you can stay alert and not miss a beat — especially if you managed to hit every location on the pub crawl.
#PROTIP: Carry a reusable water bottle (or pick one up from a vendor on the trade show floor), that you can refill at various places throughout the venue.
While you may no longer need to stand in the back of breakout sessions, you are still sure to be on your feet for long periods of time and walk several miles trekking between the exhibition showcase, sessions, and keynotes. Ditch your fancy footwear for something you won’t kick yourself for wearing by the end of each day.
#PROTIP: For both men and women, look for the comfiest shoes like Clarks, Merrells, or Cole Haan.
With 24,000 attendees descending on the Venetian and Palazzo, getting into the casino restaurants can be difficult, especially with a group! Use OpenTable or Reserve to book your table a day or two in advance to make sure you get to eat.
#PROTIP: Sushi Samba in the Palazzo is an attendee favorite, so make sure you book your table there early. For some off-strip deliciousness, check out Lotus of Siam, a hot spot for local chefs to gather after they get off work for the night.
Dubbed world-famous by AWS, it is certainly not a night to miss.
Details: LINQ parking lot, Thursday, December 1, 8:00pm - Midnight
#PROTIP: If you are into EDM, this is a must-see show. Past performances have featured Skrillex, Zedd, and deadmau5.
